See the future
being built.

A solar-energy field trip through the factories, grids and cities of China—with enough art, history and wild landscape to keep the ideas human.

The brief

Half fieldwork.
Half wonder.

The route follows the solar value chain from trade-floor sourcing to inverter and battery engineering, then out to a utility-scale project and back into the urban fabric. Cultural days are placed where the technical pace needs air—not as filler, but as a second way of understanding how China builds.

Day by day

The proposed itinerary

Built around Canton Fair Phase 1 and four high-value visit windows. Factory and project access remains subject to confirmation.

01
Thu · Oct 15Guangzhou
Transit

Arrive, reset, orient

Land in China, check in near Pazhou, collect Canton Fair credentials, then walk the Pearl River and Zhujiang New Town after dark.

02
Fri · Oct 16Guangzhou
Solar

Inverters, storage, controls

Canton Fair Phase 1: map inverter and ESS suppliers, compare architectures, certifications, warranty structures and export readiness.

03
Sat · Oct 17Guangzhou
Solar

Modules, BOS, automation

Return for modules, trackers, switchgear, robotics and quality systems. Ask how factories control yield, traceability and degradation risk.

04
Sun · Oct 18Guangzhou
Culture

Old Canton, slow day

Chen Clan Ancestral Hall, Yongqingfang and Shamian Island—a deliberate cultural pause between technical days.

05
Mon · Oct 19Guangzhou → Shenzhen
Transit

Close the fair, ride south

Use the final fair morning for pre-arranged meetings and second looks. High-speed train to Shenzhen; evening architecture walk in Futian.

06
Tue · Oct 20Shenzhen
Solar

The smart-energy city

Priority request: International Low-Carbon City and Huawei Digital Power for PV + storage + smart-campus integration in a dense urban setting.

07
Wed · Oct 21Shenzhen → Hefei
Culture

Urban future, then north

Morning at the Museum of Contemporary Art & Planning Exhibition, then a direct train to Hefei—or fly if the schedule protects Thursday’s visit.

08
Thu · Oct 22Hefei
Solar

Sungrow: the anchor visit

Request a technical workshop on utility inverters, BESS, plant controls, grid support and the procurement path for an Ecuador project.

09
Fri · Oct 23Hefei / Fuyang
Solar

Generation at landscape scale

Priority field visit to the CTG Fuyang wind–solar–storage base, built over a former mining-subsidence area. Keep Gotion as the city fallback.

10
Sat · Oct 24Hefei → Huangshan
Culture

From grid scale to old villages

Train to Huangshan, then Xidi or Hongcun for Hui architecture, courtyards and lanes. Sleep in Tangkou at the mountain gate.

11
Sun · Oct 25Mount Huangshan
Nature

Granite, pine, cloud

A full day on Yellow Mountain: cableway up, ridge paths and viewpoints. Keep the route weather-flexible and travel light.

12
Mon · Oct 26Huangshan → Shanghai
Transit

The megacity reveal

Morning descent and high-speed train to Shanghai. Sunset on the Bund, followed by the city’s industrial waterfront and contemporary skyline.

13
Tue · Oct 27Changzhou day trip
Solar

Trina Solar: module intelligence

Request HQ, lab or active-line access to discuss module roadmaps, reliability, bankability, quality assurance and Latin American supply.

14
Wed · Oct 28Shanghai
Culture

Art in a power station

Power Station of Art, the West Bund museums and Shanghai Museum East. Leave the evening open for the city’s autumn arts programme.

15
Thu · Oct 29Suzhou day trip
Culture

Gardens as systems design

Suzhou Museum, Humble Administrator’s Garden and Pingjiang Road. Read the gardens as engineered sequences of water, shade and framed views.

16
Fri · Oct 30Shanghai
Transit

Depart with a field thesis

A quiet final morning, team synthesis over breakfast, then depart Shanghai with supplier leads, design references and next-step decisions.

Technical priority

Five doors worth opening

Success is four confirmed visits—not five rushed meetings. The ranking protects the learning value if outreach is uneven.

01

Hefei

Sungrow

Inverters · BESS · plant controls

Best single stop to connect equipment choices with utility-scale system design and grid behaviour.

90-minute technical workshop + facility tour
02

Shenzhen

Low-Carbon City

Urban PV · storage · smart campus

A built example of generation, storage, buildings and software operating as one energy system.

Site walk + controls demonstration
03

Fuyang

CTG energy base

Floating PV · wind · storage

A landscape-scale case study in solar development, storage and reuse of former mining land.

Operator-led field visit + project briefing
04

Changzhou

Trina Solar

Modules · quality · supply chain

A chance to pressure-test module technology, reliability evidence and factory quality systems.

Lab, showroom or active-line access
05

Hefei

Gotion

Cells · packs · stationary storage

Battery-focused depth and a credible second Hefei meeting if project access outside the city falls through.

ESS product briefing + manufacturing visit

What makes the trip work

One credible story

Three-person investor/developer delegation assessing an Ecuador solar platform. Lead with Kyle’s decade-plus of sector experience and a clear technical agenda.

Ask for a workshop

Request 60–90 minutes, not a generic tour. Share the questions in advance: climate, load shape, grid support, warranty, supply and local service.

Rail-first, not rail-only

Use high-speed rail for the core arc. Keep Shenzhen → Hefei flexible and only attempt Fuyang with confirmed access and a driver.

Protect the entry plan

Kyle’s business visa, final passport choices, yellow-fever proof and airline-specific document checks are early critical-path tasks.

Planning basis

Primary references

Dates, access, visas and transport should be rechecked before purchase. Proposed company and project visits are outreach targets—not confirmed appointments.
